Every year in the month of May, the North Coast Lacrosse Championship is hosted at Diamond Community Park in North Canton, OH. It is a place where lacrosse teams from all over the state are able to play in a tournament from the grades of 3-4 to 7th and 8th. This year the tournament gathered about 256 teams to play in a championship style bracket and show off their skills to other programs. Beginning nine short years ago with only 10 teams participating in the event, it grew to outstanding numbers because of the location, atmosphere and planning by the hosts of the tournament.

The tournament is run by the company Big Dog Lacrosse which is a local lacrosse company that hosts summer leagues, winter box leagues and travel teams. It is a family owned company whose goal was to spread the game of lacrosse in the northeastern region of Ohio and allow players to travel east to play against bigger and better competition in the hope to better their game.

The first weekend of the North Coast Championship kicked off with a success even though the weather was awfully rainy on Sunday for the participating teams. Even though the rain was coming down in large quantities, it did not stop the 3-4 boys teams from having a good time in the mud. The girls teams were a little more taken back by the weather, but overall it was a success.

At the tournament there were opportunities for families and players to purchase tournament gear out of the main tent area to have a good memory of the tournament they played at with each school being represented on the back of the shirts. Families and participants were also able to enjoy carnival style venders such as a burger and fries joint, gyro and Italian sausages as well as a station that would deep fry Oreos, pickles and funnel cakes. They were also able to satisfy their sweet tooth at an ice cream or Italian ice vendor on the premises as well.

Overall, the tournament was a great success and Big Dog Lacrosse has heard nothing but positive feedback and high hopes for a great experience next year. It is a great place for families to gather in a central location and watch their friends and loved ones play lacrosse. It makes it even more convenient that all the fields, vendors and activities are all in one facility which help alleviate the transportation by car from field to field.

Feel free to check out Big Dog Lacrosse's website and explore the opportunities they have to offer!
